An open, two-phase competition was held to decide who should undertake the demanding and complex task of designing the ThyssenKrupp Quarter. Over 100 national and international architecture firms took part. The first phase centered on developing the urban design structure.
In a two-day meeting the judges selected 11 of the firms to go forward to the second phase of the competition. In this phase, competitors were required to present an impressive and esthetically outstanding architectural design which would set new standards in corporate architecture and at the same time meet high functional, ecological and economic requirements.
